History Group speakers, meetings and walk 2023

Updated: Sep 23

The Markfield local history group planned an interesting line up of speakers and topics for 2023. Earlier in the year, we heard about criminals of yesteryear and the meanings of place names. In July, some 20 people risked the rain showers and joined the walk around the village and up and over the former Hill Hole quarry. More recently in September, an audience of some 30 locals enjoyed a talk about nearby Nanpantan Hall and its walled garden. Our final meeting of this year will be on 21st November.

Meetings are usually on Tuesdays, starting at 7.30pm at the Methodist Church Rooms on Main Street, just opposite The Green, postcode LE67 9UU.

Please feel free to come along, non-members are always welcome and we are a friendly group of local people. We ask for a contribution of £3 per person.

To become a member, the annual subscription is £8 per person or £14 for a couple/family, and meetings are then free to attend.
