About the Markfield Local History Group

The Markfield Local History Group comprises local people with an interest in the history of Markfield and how it has evolved over the centuries to become the place that we know now. 

Please join us at our meetings and events, non-members will be made very welcome - details of the programme can be found here.  Non-members are asked to pay a small charge on the door.

Objectives

The Group's objectives are to:

 

  • Promote knowledge of and engagement with the history of Markfield.

  • Undertake, encourage and support local research.

  • Maintain a local history archive and resource in physical and digital format.

  • Develop links with local and national associations and groups.

  • Organise activities, events, guided walks and other educational and social activities.

Membership

Membership is open to adults resident in Markfield and the surrounding area. New members are welcome to join at any meeting.

 

The annual membership subscription is £8 for individuals and £14 for joint members. The membership subscription runs from one Annual General Meeting to another. Members who join during the year will have membership through to the next AGM, which is usually held early in the calendar year.

 

There is no charge for under 18s. Children aged under 16 must be accompanied. Please note that our meetings and events are generally not suitable for younger children, unless otherwise advertised.

 

Committee

The members appoint the Committee at the Annual General Meeting. The officers for 2026/27 are:

Archive, Local History Books and Family History

​​We hold a physical and online archive of documents, photos, maps, books, etc. relating to Markfield and the local area.  A collection of local history books is available for reference at the Markfield Community Library.  We are happy to help with family history research.
