Markfield Scouts was started in 1948 by Gordon Chesterton. This was a low key affair, in a classroom at the old village Primary School on The Green, with a handful of boys and a copy of ‘Scouting for Boys’.
Now with a group committee of six, the group was officially registered with Coalville District Boy Scouts Association as 1st. Markfield Scout Group in 1950.
In 1953, the meetings moved into the Miners’ Welfare Institute on Main St. Once a fortnight the room was heated, so the programme was cold nights games, warm nights badge work.
