Meeting: Peppermint Billy, the last man to be hanged in Leicester

Tuesday 19 March 2024, 7.30pm

Markfield Methodist Church, Main Street, Markfield LE67 9UU

Speaker: Gareth King

Gareth came to talk to us in March 2023 and was most entertaining, so we are very glad to welcome him back.

He will guide us through the gruesome double murder case of the last man hanged in public in Leicester, in 1856 – a man known as Peppermint Billy.

  • Why was he known by that name?

  • What were his crimes?

  • Where was he hanged?

Come along and find out - and be very entertained too!

Free of charge for Markfield Local History Group members.

£3 per adult visitor.

New Group members are always welcome, the charge is £8 per year (January to January).
